AcuCT Split-Core Current Transformers for Retrofit Metering Projects

AcuCT split-core CTs help installers add metering to existing conductors without disconnecting cables, making them valuable for retrofit energy monitoring.

Current transformers are easy to underestimate, but they are central to any CT-metering project. A high-quality meter cannot deliver reliable results if the CT ratio, window size, orientation or wiring is wrong. The AcuCT split-core CT range is particularly useful for retrofit projects because it can be installed around existing conductors without disconnecting the cable.

Product specification

The selected AcuCT Split Core CT Series-2031 has a 50mm x 80mm window and covers 400A to 1000A applications. The broader AcuCT 5A series is described as a rugged, compact split-core current transformer designed with 1A or 5A industrial output options, with multiple sizes and input ranges available for different project requirements.

The split-core format is the key installation advantage. In many commercial boards and plant rooms, disconnecting large conductors is disruptive, expensive and sometimes impractical. A split-core CT allows the installer to open the CT, position it around the conductor and secure it with less downtime.

Where it is used

Applications include commercial energy monitoring, tenant sub-metering, generator monitoring, solar import/export studies, plant-level consumption tracking and panel upgrades. The 400A to 1000A range is especially relevant where direct-connected meters are no longer appropriate and a CT meter must be used.

Correct CT selection also protects data quality. The CT ratio must match the expected load and meter configuration, and the physical window must suit the conductor or busbar arrangement. Oversizing or incorrect orientation can cause inaccurate readings and confusing reports.

Fast Forward installation support

Fast Forward Metering can help match the AcuCT model to the panel layout, load profile and connected meter. The team can also supply suitable meters, fusing, terminals and enclosures where required.

During installation, Fast Forward can support CT orientation checks, phase matching, ratio configuration and commissioning tests. This is where a CT project becomes dependable: the hardware, wiring and meter setup all have to agree.
